Contribute
Thank you for your interest in contributing and sharing via a guest post for eatdrink.com.au.
We get pitched a lot of ideas, but unfortunately we are not able to use everything that’s submitted. We may decline to use your post because of its quality, the relevance of your topic, because we have more posts than we can use, or because we’ve published a number of posts on that topic recently. We may also decline to use your post if it covers information we’ve covered previously.
So who are we looking for?
The folks here at eatdrink.com.au are committed to the pursuit of delivering the most relevant content to our readers in real-time online utilising the latest technologies to do so. eatdrink.com.au is constantly looking for industry experts, thought leaders, opinionators, innovators in foodservice, hospitality, tourism, food and wine. If you have exclusive news, offers, new ideas, fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that would be of value to our readers, then we want to talk with you. This provides an independent platform and voice to the movers and shakers of the industry.
We get by with a little help from our friends
To increase the chances of our being able to use your post, and to help us get your post ready for publishing on eatdrink.com.au we’ve put together a few guidelines and suggestions. Please make sure it:
- Conveys quality, practical information that is of value to eatdrink.com.au community
- You must warrant that your work is original
- Has not been published elsewhere (including online)
- Is able to be used exclusively at eatdrink.com.au
- Does not breach copyright nor defame any person/company.
Does it have to be exclusive?
Unless previously negotiated with our Editor, we ask that the posts you submit to us are written exclusively for use by eatdrink.com.au. You can write about the same topic elsewhere, and let’s face it if you are an subject-matter expert it’s going to be difficult not to, our request is that posts that appear on eatdrink.com.au don’t appear in the same form elsewhere.
What topics are we speaking about?
Posts that are relevant to the overall topic – foodservice, hospitality, tourism, accommodation, and catering issues, trends, reviews, skills, business and social issues in Australia and around the world. The eatdrink.com.au community loves practical tips and how-tos. Show, not tell and sell. Give information that our readers can learn and apply, and you’ll be popular here.
Voice
We encourage you to be yourself and bring your own voice to your post. Nothing sterile or overly corporate speak. Post with passion with words that engage.
How to submit?
Feel free to submit your content in a Word or plain text format bearing in mind these considerations:
- 600 words or less (unless otherwise negotiated with our Editor)
- In plain text without any formatting, ie, no bold, underlining or italics in the body.
- Subheadings can be in bold.
- Provide links to any documents, media reports or websites to which the post refers if its relevant to the topic you’re writing about. If we feel that your post contains too many back links to your own blog, we may remove them or reject the post. A high-quality, helpful post will get people checking out who you are more effectively than will lots of links back to your blog. Less is more!
- No footnotes. Do not embed links in text.
Images
Suggestions for illustrations and images are also welcome. We love to include images in posts on eatdrink.com.au as they add personality, break up content and grab attention. Image requirements:
- Ensure that the image is available for legal reuse (for example, under the Creative Commons license)
- Ensure the image’s reuse is not restricted, ie, many images are only available for non-commercial use and therefore cannot be used by eatdrink.com.au
- Send us a link to the original image location online.
- Include in your article full credit to the image’s owner (including their name and link to their site)
- Images can be of any size, but the maximum width is 540 pixels.
- It’s up to you to ensure that the images you submit are able to be used commercially in terms of copyright.
- Please do not submit images by pasting them into your email or word document.
Editing
All posts that appear on eatdrink.com.au are proofread and edited, although rarely heavily. Don’t be offended as we are just trying to ensure every post we publish is as successful as possible. Occasionally we send back a post with suggested additions, omissions or changes as we think that your post could be just tweaked a bit beyond basic editing. Our aim is to constantly deliver valuable content to the eatdrink.com.au community. What’s good for them, is good for you and eatdrink.com.au as a whole.
Byline
You’ve worked hard to contribute great content for us, so let us help you promote you. We want to highlight you and your business. This is largely done in your byline. Bylines should be a sentence or two explaining who you are and what you do with up to two links in it. Your byline will appear at the bottom of your post, but we will also write a short introductory sentence that will include your main link appearing at the top of the post.
