Port Phillip Estate winery to open

30 November 2009 No Comment

The new Port Phillip Estate winery is set to open its doors on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

In a recent press release, they have stated that “the new building will feature a restaurant, cellar door and tasting room, outside deck overlooking vineyards and Western Port Bay, and state of the art winemaking facilities.”

They also mentioned that it will be a showpiece for the Mornington Peninsula.

The vineyards are owned by Giorgio Gjergja and his family. The wines are crafted by winemaker Sandro Mosele.

“The building reflects the level of skill, craft and artisanship that is involved in making fine wine.” says Giorgio Gjergja.

Port Phillip Estate has a 85 seat dining room, where Chef Simon West’s contemporary, regional and seasonal inspired menus will take the stage. Simon returns home to the Mornington Peninsula, as is said to be thrilled to be back creating food to complement the region’s wines.

The interior of the restaurant has a central fireplace and panoramic views. A list of influential Australian and international wines has been curated by winemaker Sandro Mosele.

Both the cellar door tasting room and restaurant open to an expansive timber slated terrace, reminiscent of a well crafted ship’s deck, and poised to take advantage of the spectacular vineyard and sea outlook.

Upstairs is the public face of Port Phillip Estate, but hidden below ground is the winemaking, storing and bottling facilities. The large oval barrel room is positioned five metres underground to provide the ideal temperature and humidity for wine storage. This winemaking heart also houses a special wine museum and cellaring facilities.
